thiseurope welcomes contributions from writers.
Please have a thorough look at our site and the types of articles on it before submitting ideas. It will save you and us time. You do not have to be a native English speaker to write for us, but we only publish in English and do not translate articles from other languages.
thiseurope articles fall into three main categories:
Features
The core of our site consists of feature articles about European trends in politics, travel, food, culture, sport and music. What we are looking for is local insight, sharp analysis, fresh perspectives and sparkling writing. Articles should be no less than 700 words and no more than 1200.
News
This is the short snippet section, teasing readers with lesser-reported European lifestyle stories culled from the media. We welcome 20-100 word summaries of articles that will interest a European readership. We are keener on human-interest stories, travel news and original views than in headline news that has already been reported by CNN, BBC or national dailies.
Events
If there is an event that you think will interest our European readership then tell us about it. It could be a rock festival, major sporting tournament or something more offbeat like a tomato-throwing festival. What we want to know is what its called, when it takes place and where and what the web address is. We’d also like a short, cheeky preview of it to entice readers. We are not interested in individual football /rugby matches, opera/theatre performances and corporate events. However, elections, national/regional days, seasonal events – like Carnivals – and well-established festivals are up our street.
Payment, Etc.
Because of budget restraints, thiseurope cannot pay contributors for articles at this stage. However, as soon as we get funding we will pay writers at competitive rates. We are happy to accept articles that have already been published, as long as they comply with copyright rules. Writers are also free to sell work that was originally published on thiseurope.
A few other tips:
- Send us an outline of the article before you send a feature
- When filing, attach your article as a Word document and also paste it into the email message. We also need photos for all features.
- Enclose full contact details, including e-mail address and mobile phone number.
- Spell check using UK English.
- We don’t publish traditional 500-word news articles, poems or short stories. However, we can use cartoons and high-quality photo-journals if submitted in .jpg format.
